Fields mark final phase of the South Louisville Soccer Field Project
Mayor Fischer joined the Louisville Parks Foundation (LPF), Churchill Downs officials, leadership of Louisville City FC, Louisville Parks and Recreation staff, other city officials, and donors today to celebrate the completion of three 5-a-side turf soccer fields in Wyandotte Park. The construction of the fields completes all three phases of the LPF turf soccer field campaign for South Louisville, which included five new fields in three public parks.

In keeping with a play trend sweeping the nation, the Louisville Parks Foundation (LPF) has installed a “pop-up” nature play area in Russell Lee Park adjacent to the traditional play structure LPF funded in 2017. Now through the end of September, LPF will gather feedback on the area from parents and children before committing resources to install nature playgrounds in other public parks.

Jack O’Lantern Spectacular tickets
on sale now
Tickets go on sale today for what has become the must-see event of the Halloween season. The Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular is returning for the seventh consecutive year to south Louisville’s Iroquois Park, where more than 5,000 artistically carved pumpkins will greet visitors from October 8 through November 3. This year, the event will feature timed ticketing on Fridays and Saturdays.

LouCity FC staff running the miniMarathon to raise funds for turf soccer field in
Wyandotte Park
LouCity FC staff and supporters committed to run in the Kentucky Derby Festival's miniMarathon on April 27th, in support of the Louisville Parks Foundation's planned turf soccer fields at Wyandotte Park. The LouCity runners included Club President Brad Estes, Coach John Hackworth and Community Relations Director Mario Sanchez, in addition to other park and soccer enthusiasts, all of whom competed to be declared the "Winner for Wyandotte."

Louisville Parks Foundation breaks ground on TUrf Soccer Field at William Harrison Park
This week, the Louisville Parks Foundation began installation of a new turf soccer field in William Harrison Park. The construction of the field will complete Phase II of three in their turf soccer field campaign for South Louisville, which includes five new fields in three public parks. Funding for the $185,000 project is the result of a partnership between the Louisville Parks Foundation, a non-profit that supports Louisville Parks and Recreation, Louisville Metro, Councilwoman Mary Woolridge, Councilwoman Marianne Butler, the Gheens Foundation, and individual donors.

Jack O'Lantern Spectacular celebrates a “Night at the Library” with discounts to library card holders
To celebrate the 2018 theme for the Louisville Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular, the event is offering a discounted night to Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) cardholders. Grouped in themed scenes and set to music, this year’s show, “A Night at the Library”, is a celebration of the Smithsonian’s 50th anniversary with vignettes highlighting imagery from literature, pop culture, history, arts, and cinema.
On Thursday, November 1, 2018 all tickets to attend the Louisville Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular will be $10 when you show your library card at the box office.

Jack o'Lantern Spectacular returns to iroquois park for sixth consecutive year
In what has become the must-see event of the Halloween season, the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular is returning for the sixth consecutive year to south Louisville’s Iroquois Park, where 5,000 artistically carved pumpkins will greet visitors from October 9 through November 4.
The pumpkins will illuminate a 1/3-mile trail adjacent to the Iroquois Amphitheater, and event officials estimate up to 85,000 people will visit.

A Louisville City park is getting a new $95,000 skate spot, designed specifically for street skating. The 3,500 square foot concrete park is being built within the existing green space at Breslin Park in the Irish Hill neighborhood. Leaders with the project said a skate spot is different from a traditional, concrete-jungle type skate park. The Louisville Parks Foundation worked with the Irish Hill Neighborhood Association and the skate community to develop the plans and raise the funds.

Kick it: New public soccer field
opens in Beechmont
A ribbon cutting was held this afternoon for a new public soccer field at the Beechmont Community Center. Mayor Greg Fischer, Louisville City FC Coach James O'Conner and several Louisville FC players were there to celebrate. The team donated the turf for the five-a-side soccer field in partnership with the Louisville Parks Foundation... It is the first public soccer field in South Louisville, but more are in the works. The Louisville Parks Foundation is working to raise $383,000 for fields at Wyandotte Park and William Harrison Park.
Summer Blessings Feeds Low-Income Youth at
Louisville Parks & Recreation Community Centers
On Wednesday, May 23, the Louisville Parks Foundation partnered with Texas Roadhouse and Blessings in a Backpack to pack 8,000 food packages at the South Louisville Community Center. Summer Blessings was founded in 2016, by Texas Roadhouse associates LaShelle LeMaster and Paula Logue. The program complements Blessings in a Backpack which provides food packages to low-income children through the school system, however there was no system to serve the children during the summer months. By working with Louisville Parks and Recreation, they were able to provide weekend meals to the children attending summer programs at three Community Centers.

In total, Louisville Parks Foundation raised $31,965 in the tournament to further their mission to inspire donors to invest in our 120+ public parks and recreational facilities ~ for present and future generations...
Fairdale mural project completed as
birthday gift to Mayor Fischer
As part of Mayor Greg Fischer’s Give-A-Day week of volunteer service across the city of Louisville, the mayor himself was honored today with the unveiling of a mural at Nelson Hornbeck Park in Fairdale. The mural is a birthday present from his sister Lynn, who provided the materials for the project through a gift to the Louisville Parks Foundation. Art students from Fairdale High School and Fairdale Community School designed and painted the mural....

Announces Hiring of President/CEO
The Louisville Parks Foundation Board has announced the hiring of Brooke Perry Pardue in the role of President/CEO. Since February 2008, Pardue has served as the Constituent Services Manager for Congressman John Yarmuth. Through her efforts in this role, more than $8 million was returned to taxpayers, through positive casework resolutions. She has also been instrumental in facilitating Rep. Yarmuth’s Academy Nomination process, job fairs, and countless other events. She previously served on the board of the Louisville Parks Foundation.
